Not a lot to do this weekend? Why don8217;t you prop up your pillows, rent a bunch of videos and curl up with a bowl of popcorn. Our movie critic selects a handful of under-rated movies to watch. Take your pick and rest assured you8217;ll be entertained no matter what:
KHAMOSHI
Sanjay Leela Bhansali8217;s debut offering may have earned ample critical acclaim, but failed to seduce the box-office successfully. Grab a bowlful of grapes, hold your kerchief close to your face and watch Manisha Koirala as she grapples through life with her deaf-mute parents. Guaranteed to leave you howling like never before, this one8217;s a must-watch. Certainly a notch above his newest and more successful film, Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam.
Yes, we think Adam Sandler sucks too, but not in this rom-com romantic comedy, dummies which also features Hollywood8217;s favourite girl-next-door Drew Barrymore. A top-class soundtrack, smashing performances from both lead players and many, many laughs. It8217;s one of thosemovies that makes you laugh and cry both at the same time.
AMERICAN HISTORY X
Goofy movies won8217;t do for you? No problem. Get yourself a copy of this intensely disturbing drama based on the neo-Nazi movement in America, and rest assured you8217;ll lose your peace of mind momentarily. Edward Norton shines with this Oscar-nominated performance that leaves you visibly shattered but thoughtfully provoked.
KACHCHE DHAAGE
Not the year8217;s biggest blockbuster, this Ajay Devgan-Saif Ali Khan starrer is a remarkable movie, not merely for its performances, but also because it clearly avoids venturing into cliched territory.A splendid debut by director Milan Luthria, the script ain8217;t sparklingly original, but watch this one for breakthrough direction.
THE MUSE
A bright, brilliant comedy from Albert Brooks, this one stars Sharon Stone in the role of a muse, who inspires film-makers and screenwriters while they8217;re dabbling with their new projects. Look out for cameos by James Cameron and RobReiner, but most of all, don8217;t take your eyes off Brooks and Andie McDowell who pump life into their characters, not giving you a moment to stop guffawwing. Prop up your pillows and gorge on the popcorn!
