Mike Huckabee Republican: Virtually out of the picture till some time back, Mike Huckabee is now in the top tier of Republican candidates, for rather unusual reasons. He has come to be known as the candidate who dropped 110 pounds in a sport span just the kind who would get adopted by Oprah, if she hadn8217;t put her weight behind Democrat Barack Obama. People approach him at airports to share testimonials of weight loss. He is part of a rock-and-roll band called Capitol Offense, and was once a religious preacher. Fifteen years ago, he advocated isolating AIDS patients and suggested homosexuality was a dangerous health risk. He stands by that. Huckabee is a former Governor of Arkansas. He is leading in some polls in Iowa, New Hampshire and also in national surveys:

8226; Immigrants: Opposes amnesty for illegal immigrants, but feels the government can give aid to their children
8226;Abortion: Intensely pro-life, as Arkansas Governor he participated in anti-abortion rallies and favours a repeal of the monumental Roe vs Wade judgment
8226;Evolution: Doesn8217;t believe in the Theory of Evolution, but is not against it being taught in schools as long as creationism and intelligent design are also taught
8226;Environment: Believes environment is a 8220;spiritual issue8221; and has urged greater investment in alternative energy sources
8226; Iraq War: Supports the war and troop surge
