Batman8217;s suit has turned the caped crusader into a muscle-clad sex symbol. Here8217;s how:
I believe I can fly: Artist Bob Kane, creator of Batman, drew inspiration from an illustration of Leonardo da Vinci8217;s ornithopter, a flying machine with batlike wings. For the cape in Batman Begins, a fabric made from superfine parachute silk was invented, with hairs woven through to give it a velvety appearance.
Holy nipples! Director Joel Schumacher Batman 038; Robin, Batman Forever added rubber nipples to the bat suit.
Symbolic icon: Under editor Julius Schwartz and artist Carmine Infantino, the new chest plate featured a bright yellow oval, debuting in May 1964.
Abs of steel: In Tim Burton8217;s Batman and Batman Returns, the costume department added rippling muscles into the suit8217;s armour to offset Michael Keaton8217;s less-than-buff build.
Behind the mask: For The Dark Knight right, the cowl got an update. Designed like a motorcycle helmet, it is detached from the suit, allowing Christian Bale to actually move his head.
All suited up: George Clooney8217;s suit in Batman 038; Robin pays homage to the character8217;s well-known colour scheme: blue and gray. Through the years, artists turned the character8217;s cape and cowl from black to a deep blue.
