
A day after a CPI-M sympathiser was murdered, allegedly by RSS workers, Thalassery town and its nearby areas were peaceful expect for a few stray incidents of violence. A day-long CPI(M) hartal in Thalassery and nearby Mahe enclave of Puducherry evoked near total response.
However, a CPI-M worker was targeted by a group of alleged BJP workers near Kathirur. The grievously injured Pavithran has been shifted to a private hospital in Kozhikode.
In another incident, a group of CPI-M activists attacked BJP worker Lakshmanan by barging into his house at Keerangad near Thalassery. The injured BJP worker has been admitted to a hospital in Thalassery, police said.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan visited the trouble torn localities to review the law and order situation. He said the Government would take firm steps to contain the recurring clashes at any cost and would deploy additional police force to prevent flaring up of violence in the politically sensitive areas around Thalassery.
A peace meet involving the RSS and the CPI (M) leadership was held at the behest of the Thalassery RDO in which both the parties assured to take adequate steps to prevent spread of violence, sources said.
