Thailand’s PB Air will launch the first international air links to the Andaman islands this month with charter flights from Bangkok to the remote archipelago, an official today.

‘‘We have three curtain-raiser flights on March 18, 22 and 25,’’ said Ashish Gupta, whose firm, the Barefoot Group is organising the charters on PB Air’s 50-seat Embraer aircraft.

He said the 90-minute Bangkok-Port Blair route would be the first ever international flights to the Indian territory.

A schedule with weekly Bangkok flights is set for next December to April, the Andaman’s high season, but technically the flights will remain charters according to Indian regulations which restrict traffic to the islands.
