GURGAON, OCT 19: Tension mounted in the Maruti Udyog Ltd (MUL) factory here today following the death of a second employee in less then 24 hours with Union leaders already on a war-path accusing the management of being responsible for the deaths.

The bloated body of a 20-year old apprentice Rajesh Kumar was found on the railway track, eight km from the factory. It has been sent to the Rohtak Medical College for post-mortem. News about recovery of the body came a day after another 58-year-old employee Chander Bhan died in the factory premises.

While the employees claimed that Rajesh Kumar’s body was found this morning, a top MUL Executive A Nandy said news about his death was available yesterday itself even before Bhan’s death.

MUL MD Jagdish Khattar said the two deaths had no links with the agitation by the 4,000-odd workforce to press some demands, while the Union leaders claim the loss of lives reflected the “high-handedness” on the part of the management.

“The atmosphere in and around MUL complex is tense and surcharged. Employees are highly agitated following the deaths caused by management’s foul play,” MUL Union general secretary Mathew Abraham said.
