A key operative in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam Raez Quadri was arrested and remanded to police custody today.
Quadri, a close associate of Abdul Karim Telgi, was nabbed by Special Investigation Team (SIT) from old city last night while he was returning from Kazipet. A city court remanded him to police custody till January 8, police said.
Quadri, who runs a transport business, was one of the main accused in the fake stamp paper case unearthed in the city in 1999 and was arrested in the same year along with 42 others by Begum Bazar police. He was subsequently released on bail.
Police sources said Quadri was Telgi’s pointman in the state and had introduced the kingpin to Vijender Reddy, an inspector of Begum Bazar police station, who has since been suspended.
