Teachers join uniform protest at MVLU

The college has been embroiled in controversy ever since the uniform decision was taken, and in late July, the VPS held a demonstration. The teachers joined in later.According to MJCTU, the management had sent a proposal to the education department to close the college from 2000-2001 in a letter dated May 6, 1998. However, the Deputy Director of Education shot down the demand in a letter dated October 31, 1998, according to MJCTU. Despite that, the college has been admitting lesser students than prescribed, say the teachers.

The MJCTU has also been protesting the timing of the junior college classes, which go on till late evening. This causes great inconvenience to the students, they say, adding that it was yet another way of moving towards closing down the college. After today8217;s protest, there was no response from the college authorities8217;, MJCTU president Amar Singh said. Neither members of the college management nor the principal could be contacted for comment.
