
PATIALA, May 13: The Punjabi University Teachers Association PUTA today staged a dharna in front of the office of the Vice-Chancellor and boycotted the evaluation of answer-books to protest against the dilution of the UGC recommended pay scales for university and college teachers by the HRD Ministry.
PUTA president and secretary Dr B.S. Nanda and Dr Jaswinder Singh said here today that PUTA has taken serious notice of the meeting of state education secretaries called by HRD Minister at Delhi tomorrow and expressed doubt that this meeting may further complicate the problems. Puta has demanded that the HRD Minister convene a meeting of the vice chancellors instead of education secretaries to solve the problems.
LUDHIANA: In response to a call of the coordination committee of PFUTA, GCTA and PCCTU, the college teachers working in the non-government affiliated colleges of Punjab and Chandigarh today boycotted evaluation work at all centres of Panjab University, Chandigarh, Punjabi University, Patiala and GND University, Amritsar, according to S.S. Hundal and R.S.Brar, president and general secretary respectively of PCCTU. The Union represents 5,000 college teachers of 150 non-government affiliated colleges.
AMRITSAR: The teachers of Guru Nanak Dev University also boycotted the evaluation work in protest against the pay structure announced recently by the Central Government.
FEROZEPUR: Teachers today observed complete boycott of evaluation work of students papers here at the Ferozepur evaluation centre of Panjab University, claimed prof Devinder Arora, president of local unit of union.
MOGA: Punjab aided school teachers belonging to nine districts in the state will hold a rally at Faridkot on May 16 to protest the 8220;indifferent attitude8221; of the state government towards their demands. If their demands were not accepted, the teachers would force closure of privately aided schools for indefinite period.
