Tax collections in Mumbai increases by 43%

MUMBAI, APR 8: Corporate tax collections in the Mumbai Income Tax commissionerate have risen by 43 per cent, this year, a press note from the I-T department said. While last year’s collections were Rs 7,787 crore, this year Rs 11160 crore have been collected. I-T collections are Rs 4,643 crore as against last year’s Rs 3,947 crore.

The overall collections in the Mumbai Commissionerate are Rs 16,526 crore as against Rs 12,454 crore (not including VDIS collections). The refunds this year also registered a rise, the figures being Rs 4,157 crore this year as against Rs 3,363 crore last year.

Special efforts were made this year to collect all outstanding tax demands, besides toning up the TDS machinery, the note signed by joint commissioner of Income-tax, Rajeev Kumar Agarwal, said.
