Recalled from India by King Gyanendra last September and dumped in the “reserve pool” for being sympathetic to pro-democratic forces, Pradip Kathiwada, former deputy chief of staff in the Nepalese Embassy here, is now officiating as Foreign Secretary.

“They put me in the reserve pool and I had no job for several months, but now things have changed and I am back. This is really a welcome change,” Kathiwada told The Indian Express from Kathmandu.

“India is a great friend and we will need its assistance to emerge out of the economic crisis we are facing,” said Kathiwada who was almost thrown out of the Foreign Service under a law the King made to fix officials who didn’t bend.
