MUMBAI, August 20: Her eagerness to get out of the playing arena made her mother impatient. But the elder Sachdev could have put up with anything today. After all, daughter Tania had beaten International Master Neeraj Kumar Mishra. Not that Tania was jumping up and down excitedly. The 13-year-old has too many titles under her belt and has passed that stage.

Tania gave notice of her talent in 1993 by winning five titles at the British Open — under-8 boys and girls, under-9 boys and girls and the under-10 girls title.

She qualified for the National B after finishing second in the selection trials at Delhi, and is using the championships only as a practice event for the World under-14 championships.

Her coach, GB Joshi, who is also a participant here, spelt her strengths.“She is very attacking and never shies from taking good risks,” he said. Joshi felt her chess intuition — the period when the position in the board is in transition — is very quick. No doubt about her quickness. She was out of theplaying hall before you could say rope-a-dope.
