In Chennai, a large number of nursery and matriculation schools remained closed.
Meanwhile, an official press release here denied that Tamil was being imposed on school students. The Government was compelled to issue the order only after some schools started punishing students for talking in Tamil in the schools. `Where is the question of imposing Tamil on Tamils?’, it asked.
