The actor-turned-anchor takes men8217;s fitness to a new level

Men8217;s HQ 8212; a fitness show for men only. Why the discrimination?
There are too many shows for women on television. For once, we wanted to focus just on men. Women are welcome to watch the show and give their husbands, boyfriends or brothers some tips on keeping fit and looking good.

What is the show8217;s USP?
It is a fun fitness show that deals with various health problems like obesity, osteoporosis, diabetes and other lifestyle diseases in all seriousness. The show doesn8217;t have long, lecturing sessions but practical knowledge. We also invite celebrity guests who talk about their personal problems, to which we have dieticians and doctors giving advice. There is a section in the programme which features various exercise routines 8212; kickboxing, power yoga, martial arts and many others.

How different is it from regular fitness shows?
It is not going to be an aerobics manual. The show is all about eating healthy and feeling good. Usually fitness shows become mundane after a point because the makers don8217;t delve into different aspects. But with this show, we are also going to include topics on confidence building and personality development.

From hosting cricket matches to anchoring a fitness show on television, how8217;s the transition been?
I started off as an actor. So becoming a sports broadcaster was an important transition for me. It was a learning experience for me because I had to expand my knowledge on cricket. The shift from cricket to anchoring a fitness programme too has been a learning experience. I had to read up a lot of health magazines and be aware of the various trends in fitness.

Are you a fitness freak?
My job demands me to take fitness seriously. I am a foodie. But whenever I indulge, I make sure I double my workout. I have included a lot of core training exercises in my regime after I have become a part of this show. I also practise yoga quite regularly which relieves stress.

Who according to you is the fittest person in the country today?
In terms of physique, it definitely has to be Akshay Kumar.
