In a change of strategy, the BJP today announced it would focus on issues related to aam aadmi and national security in this Parliament session, taking the heat off the ruling UPA over tainted ministers.
Senior party leader Sushma Swaraj said this was decided at the BJP Parliamentary party meeting this morning. Among others, the meeting was attended by senior leaders A.B. Vajpayee, L.K. Advani, Jaswant Singh and Venkaiah Naidu.
While not letting go the issue of tainted ministers, Swaraj said the focus will be on the problems in Manipur and Jammu and Kashmir, WTO agreements, inflation, fuel prices and slash in EPF interest rates.
Pointing out the hoisting of flags by separatists in Manipur on Independence Day, Swaraj said, ‘‘We want a full discussion on internal security. The government is insensitive to people’s suffering. The Home Minister’s reply on Manipur was directionless and we would like to know what he means by taking action at appropriate time.’’
Swaraj said a committee of senior BJP leaders would visit Bihar to investigate the incident where people lined up to collect flood relief were killed in shooting.

• NEW DELHI: Asserting that it had nothing to do with Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, the RSS today attributed HRD Minister Arjun Singh’s allegations to ‘‘internal tussle’’ within the Congress. RSS spokesman Ram Madhav said the RSS would wait for a week for Singh’s formal response to its legal notice before initiating legal proceedings against him. —ENS |
