
CHANDIGARH, Aug 19: H.S. Mader and A.K. Srivastava, accused of cheating a Sector 36 resident for procuring a sword bestowed on his forefathers by Mughal emperor Akbar, were today granted bail by UT Judicial Magistrate Ist Class Paramvir Nijjar. The two were released after they furnished bail bonds of Rs 20,000 each, along with a surety in the like amount.
The case had yesterday been taken up by JMIC A.K. Bishnoi who heard arguments on the bail pleas. Counsel for the accused argued that there was no document on record to show that the sword in question was a national valuable. It was further stated that the complainant, Iqbal Singh Gill, did not possess a licence to that effect either. There was also no paper stating that he wanted to make the said transaction of Rs 2.5 crore value.
Sector 26 blast: charges to be framed on Aug 21
The case concerning blast of a portion of Sector 26 Police Station came up in the court of UT Additional District and Sessions Judge S.S. Lamba today for arguments on the framing of charges against accused Gurcharanjit Singh. The case has now been fixed for August 21 for the framing of charges or discharge as the case may be.
On August 2 the case had been fixed for today for the framing of charges against accused Gurcharanjit Singh. The accused, an alleged activist of Khalistan Liberation Force, was declared a proclaimed offender by the court in March 1991. On August 2 the Judge had dismissed the application filed earlier by the defence counsel for supply of deficit copies of the challan. The challan was filed in the court of JMIC on April 20 this year. The duo, accused of blowing up a portion of the Sector 26 police station in July 1990, were arrested by the Chandigarh Police early this month.
A resident of Sallohpur village in Gurdaspur district, Gurcharanjit Singh had been booked by the police under Section 307, 427, 212 and 120-B of the IPC, Section 3 and 4 of the TADA Act, along with Section 3 and 4 of the Explosives Act.
He, along with constable Satwinder Singh and Balwant Singh of the Chandigarh Police, besides one Doulat Singh had caused an explosion at the police station, according to the prosecution. While Satwinder Singh and Balwant Singh were arrested, Gurcharanjit Singh, along with Doulat Singh had absconded.
