M F Husain’s effigy burnt
An effigy of M F Husain was burnt at the Raopura Tower here on Tuesday by Youth Congress leaders. The members were protesting the artist’s depiction of the Hindu mythological figure Sita in the nude. A protest rally will be taken out by the city wing of the Shiv Sena (Jai Hindu Seva Samaj) in the city on Tuesday.

BoB credit plan
The Bank of Baroda has prepared an annual credit plan (1998-99) for Vadodara district with a total outlay of Rs 167.56 crore for priority sector advances. An official release said that the plan will focus on development of agricultural, industrial and service sectors, providing employment to educated unemployed youth, aid for those living below the poverty line, and economic and welfare activities of socially and economically backward classes. The release said that the credit plan was launched by C R Kharsan, resident deputy collector at district-level consultative committee last week.

German course
A 75-day course in German language will be conducted by the Department of German, Faculty of Arts, M S University, from May 18. The department will offer courses for beginners, for tourists and for technical purposes.

Beginners will have to pay Rs 1,500, tourists will have to pay Rs 2,000 and those interested in the technical course will have to pay Rs 2,500. For details contact the Department of German, D N Hall, between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. or the Centre for Continued Education between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Info on schemes
The State government has directed the District collectorate to disseminate information about its new schemes among ration card holders. An official release of the collectorate stated here on Sunday that the district supply office has been asked to do the same in all talukas of the district by May 9.

MBA counselling
The Vadodara Study Centre of the Indira Gandhi Open University will conduct counselling for MBA course during office hours from May 8 at its study centre. Students should contact the centre for details.

Plans for STs
Collector Anil Mukim called on the officials to make time-bound plans for the upliftment of scheduled tribes in the district, while chairing a review meeting of a special `Angabhoot’ scheme here. He reviewed the district’s schemes during 1997-98 for scheduled tribes under horticulture, co-operative, health, labour, employment, social defence, irrigation, cottage industries. The meeting was attended by District Development Officer Anju Sharma among others.

ACB in Surat
Surat: THE office of the assistant director, Anti Corruption Bureau has been shifted from Vadodara to Surat, following a State government Home ministry decision. The office, set up in 1976 at Kothi Building in Vadodara, controls the region from Vadodara to the Dangs and has been shifted for the sake of convenience from May 1, 1998. The office, which will be housed at the Bahumali building in Nanpura, will oversee work in ACB police stations of the districts of South Gujarat including Bharuch. Assistant controller B S Vasava of the Vadodara division will now be available in Surat, according to a release.
