Rickshaws to go off roads from 2 pm
All autorickshaws will go off the road from 2 p.m. on Wednesday, as one more attempt to broker a compromise between autorickshaw unions and the traffic police failed on Tuesday night. The agitating unions had given a 48-hour deadline to the police and RTO authorities on Monday, failing which more than 35,000 three-wheelers were to go off the road. One last ditch effort was made by an NGO Akasmat Nivaran Sangh by intervening on Tuesday, which was able to bring representatives of agitating unions and the traffic and RTO authorities together.

However, both Assistant Commissioner of Police traffic C J Rathod and an RTO official told them at the end of a prolonged meeting that school autorickshaws seized by the police last week could not be handed over to drivers without proper procedure.
