Govt advances Rs 2.72 lakh to tribals
The state government has given Rs 2.72 lakh to tribals of Mandvi for setting up cottage industries. The beneficiaries include five people who were given Rs 40,000 and other 12, who were advanced Rs 18,000 for the purpose.
CP8217;s message
Commissioner of Police Kuldip Sharma has congratulated residents for maintaining peace and communal harmony on Mahavir Jayanti and Bakri Id which passed off peacefully on Monday. In a statement, the police chief expressed gratitude to Kaumi Akta Salahkar Samiti, leading citizens of the city and other people for ensuring that there were no untoward incidents in the city.
TB day
A function to mark the World Tuberculosis Day8217; was organised by District Tuberculosis Society recently. The function was presided over by society8217;s president and District Development Officer B N Joshi. Speaking on the occasion , Joshi said the government since 1962 has undertaken several programme to eradicate tuberculosis. District Tuberculosis officer Dr P Parmar spoke about the government8217;s efforts since 1962 to 1992.
Hike opposed
Vadodara: The Vadodara Shaher Vyapari Mandal has opposed the proposed hike in octroi schedule charges by half per cent on silk, polyester and other clothes. In a memorandum submitted to Municipal Commissioner G R Aloria, the Mandal said because of the price hike, less cloth would come in the city, which would affect VMC8217;s revenue in form of octroi.
Speaking contest
The Air Force Wives8217; Welfare Association of Vadodara conducted a public speaking contest for school children here on Tuesday. Topics included Can India and Pakistan Unite8217;, Vadodara Traffic 8211; A Chaos8217;, Who to Blame 8211; Police or Common Man8217;. Air Commodore PP Rajkumar, Air Officer Commanding of the Air Force Station Baroda, presided over the function and distributed the prizes to the winners.
