25 new posts for medical college
The Standing Committee of the Surat Municipal Corporation has created 25 new posts for the proposed medical college to become functional from the next academic session. The Committee also sanctioned Rs 1.7 crore towards the proposed college, which will be run by the SMC.

The new posts include that of dean, professor, associate professor, reader, demonstrator-cum-tutor, lecturer in biophysics, senior technician, junior technician and store keeper. 100 students would be given admission for courses starting this July.

The Nand Vidya Niketan organised a function on Tuesday to felicitate Dr N Pattanayak, joint general manager and head HRD amp; Corporate Communication, Essar Steel Ltd for his outstanding contribution to human resource development. Niketan Principal Usha Bhatt presented a memento to Dr Pattanayak.

Camps held
The Forest Department of Dangs held more than 50 medical camps in the past one year. Deputy Conservator of Forests Ram Kumar said as many as 10,000 people were treated free in these camps. While 4,000 tribals were given spectacles, 500 people will be operated for cataract at the Ahwa civic hospital by a team of doctors from Surat.

Felicitation
International swimmer Prameet Bhargava, 16, who participated in Asian Games in October last year, will be felicitated by the Sarvajanik English High School here on Friday. The function, to be held at the Experimental Campus, Amika Niketan at 10.30 am, will be presided over by Jamnadas Z Halatwala, Vice-Chairman of the Managing Committee of the Sarvajanik Society. Chiman Singh Bhalawala, a former volley ball player, will be the chief guest on the occasion.
