
Jagadeesan8217;s proposal sent back
The Standing Committee of the Surat Municipal Corporation has referred back a proposal sent by Civic Chief S Jagadeesan abolishing 981 posts. The standing committee, which was chaired by member Bakul Patel, as chairman Ajay Choksi was out of town, has asked Jagadeesan to provide all relevant information relating to these posts which he had abolished recently. Patel said the commissioner, who did not attend the meeting, had been asked to inform the standing committee in writing with 30 days of how long these posts had been lying vacant and who had created them.
RPI protest
Activists of the Republican Party of India will hold a fast on Saturday in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue to protest against the massacre of Dalits in Jehanabad district of Bihar. The brutal killings in the early hours of the Republic Day are a blot on the country, general secretary of RPI Suresh Sonavane said while coming down heavily on mainstream political parties, who, he alleged, were blaming the massacre on each other instead of comforting the kith and kin of the victims.
Move rapped
President of the city unit of Janata Dal Pawan Sharma has criticised the Surat Municipal Corporation8217;s move to remove hawkers from various places, in the name of traffic congestion. In a statement here on Thursday, Sharma said hawkers selling eatables on the footpaths were not causing so much traffic congestion as three and four wheelers, who were known for breaking traffic rules in the city.
New school
Education Minister Anandiben Patel will inaugurate a school for handicapped children at Bhatar Road at 10 am on Friday. She will later address problems of the education department at 2 pm at Talim Bhavan, Chowk Bazar.
