
SOGS adjudged best society
The Surat Obstetric and Gynaecological Society was adjudged the best society within its category for the year 1997-98 by the Federation of Obstetric and Gynaecological Societies of India. The presidential trophy was awarded to society president Dr Prakash Bhatt and secretary Dr Nimish Shelat at the 42nd All-India Congress of Obstetric and Gynaecology held in Hyderabad recently.
Doctor8217;s lecture
Dr Rohini Edrisinghe, senior scientific director of Queensland IVE Services, Brisbane, Australia, will perform advanced reproductive technology procedures for very complex infertility cases for the first time in Surat, at the Gujarat Institute of Research in Reproduction Shreenandan Hospital, jointly with IVE team led by Dr Nimish Shelat. She will address the women8217;s wing of the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry on January 25 and the Indian Medical Association in the late evening at the IMA hall.
4 schools opened
Mayor Savita Sharda inaugurated four civic schools, no 202, 202, 208, 209, in Udhna zone on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, she stressed the need to set up more schools in Marathi and Oriya language for the benefit of people of other states who had settled in Surat. Among others, Deputy mayor Snehlata Chauhan, Standing Committee Chairman Ajay Choksi, leader of the house in SMC Natu Soma Patel, Deputy Commissioner General Ashwin Mehta and Chairman Municipal School Board Hitendra Chudawala were present at the function.
Camp held
A total 257 patients were treated free of cost at a medical camp organised jointly by the Satyasai Seva Samiti and the Prashanti Charitable trust on Sunday. More than a dozen noted specialists and medical practitioners rendered their service at the camp held at Satyasai Seva Sankul in Althan on the outskirts of the city.
