Window panes of priest’s jeep smashed
Within less than 10 days of the Christian community observing a national protest against the attacks on them, another incident was reported from Unai in Valsad district. According to a statement issued by Fr Jayanti Macwan, Surat, Fr Vincent Macwan was returning from a visit of the village in a jeep with two nuns, when two persons came on a motor cycle and pretended to fall in the middle of the road. As Fr Vincent stopped the jeep, the two smashed the window panes and head lights of the jeep. They then fled from the spot. While a case has been registered at the Unai outpost, the Unai police could not be contacted despite repeated efforts.

Elected chief
Naveen Vaghela has been elected president of the non teaching staff association of the South Gujarat University. Vaghela was elected unopposed following withdrawal of nomination by his opponent Hitesh Desai, who had been holding the post for the last four years.

Panel formed
Vadodara: Members of the ONGC Retired Employees’ Welfare Association, Bharuch, have formed a panel to take up various issues with the management. An association release stated on Wednesday that the panel consisting B L Panjwani, S I Holia and N D Dube would fight issues pertaining to reduction in pension and medical facilities for the retired staff and their family members.
