
In the aftermath of 26/11 terror attacks, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation BMC is gearing up to provide civic-school students with home guard and NCC training. The civic body also plans to conduct regular guest lectures by police officials on national integration, safety and security. The training is expected to commence from the next academic session.
The decision of providing the training was taken by the education committee on Friday. Shiv Sena corporator Raja Chowgule demanded that military training be conducted in BMC schools on the lines of Bhonsala military school. The demand was however rejected and instead home guard and NCC training was accepted.
Currently students from fifth standard and above are given Scout guide and road safety training. Students from the first to the fourth standard are given training in Cub Bulbul. 8220;We will start National Cadet Corps on big scale for students of eighth standard and above and also Home Guards training,8221; said deputy education officer, Appasaheb Jadhav.
8220;In America and Britain school students are given compulsory army training but it is not possible for students in Mumbai, especially for civic schools. We will start imparting basic training in safety and security,8221; said senior civic officials.
