While the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has put the onus of responsibility for any human rights violation during the BJP’s proposed gaurav yatra on the Gujarat government, Shahi Imam of Fatehpuri, Mufti Mohammed Mukarram, today demanded the yatra be stopped as it posed threats to peace in the state.
Addressing the Friday congregation, the Imam urged President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam and Prime Minister Atab Behari Vajpayee to impose President’s Rule in the state as ‘‘both Gujarat Governor S.S. Bhandari and Chief Minister Narendra Modi have lost confidence of the minorities.’’
Calling for expediting rehabilitation work in the state, Mukarram said the President should take some initiative in this regard.
