
PANCHKULA, July 21: Stolen goods worth Rs 2 lakh have been recovered from a man arrested by the Panchkula police.
Joginder Singh, alias Rajendra, hailing from Kangra, had in his possession stolen goods including a colour TV, VCR, stereo system, audio and video cassettes, imported charger besides shirts, coats, saris, watches, gold jewellery and some foreign coins.
Superintendent of Police Alok Mittal said the thief had been arrested on July 16 and was yesterday remanded to judicial custody at Ambala. During investigation, Joginder Singh admitted that he had been arrested earlier for stealing in Chandigarh and had been released in December 1997 from Burail Jail.
After his release, Joginder Singh started living in a rented house in Indira Colony and made friends with a domestic help who provided information about empty houses in Sectors 6 and 7. Acting on this information, the thief broke into four houses in Sector 6 and a house in Sector 7.
The thief used to wear rubber gloves while breaking into a house and the police recovered tools used for breaking locks and bolts. The thief used to break into houses at midnight and usually stayed there for four hours, the SP said.
