Mantralaya employees’ union holds meet

MUMBAI: The Shiv Sena affiliated Mantralaya Karmachari Sangh held its first meeting at the Mantralaya here today. The union will be part of the Maharashtra Rajya Karmachari Mahasangh, a confederation of 60 unions, Prabhakar Desai, advisor to the Mantralaya union said. About 500 employees attended the function today. The Mahasangh is opposed to the recommendations of the Fifth Pay Commission, since these are tilted in favour of officers and against class three and four employees, he said. The Mahasangh has demanded the setting up of an independent pay commission for the states. Desai also said about 80 per cent of the 5000 workforce of Mantralya employees would soon join the union. The Sena union has posed a challenge to the R G Karnik union, which has traditionally been anti-Sena.

Bodo student leader shot dead

GUWAHATI: The Nalbari Dakhin Baska All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) unit president, Dinesh Chandra Bodo, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen at Athiabari chowk at Dumni Nathkuchi road. Official sources said here today that the 34-year-old ABSU leader was shot dead yesterday around 1100 hrs. A manhunt had been launched to nab the assailants.

CPI(M) leader Shastri dead

BHOPAL: The CPI(M) leader and former MP, Yamuna Prasad Shastri, died here today following a cardiac arrest. Shastri, 71, leaves behind his wife, a son and two daughters, CPI (M) sources said. The former MP, who was a patient of asthma, died while he was being taken to the Jaya Prakash hospital after suffering cardiac arrest.
