AUGUST 8: The state government has cleared the transfers of nine deputy commissioners of police (DCP) after their orders were okayed by the commissioner of police this afternoon.

According to the police notice, Ashok Kampte has replaced Sanjay Barwe as deputy commissioner of police, Zone 1. Barwe has been transfered to Airport Security in place of Sanjay Saxena.

Saxena takes charge of Zone VIII, replacing Sadanand Date, who has been shunted to the Special Branch (protection). V Kamble has moved from the Special Branch (SB) to the Traffic Department and S P Gupta has been transfered from Local Arms (LA) to SB-1.

C K Pawar has been shifted from SB-1 to LA-II. D Kanakratnam has replaced Ravindra Kadam in Zone VI and Bipin Behari has been posted at Zone IX, police sources said.

Meanwhile, the state Finance Minister Jayant Patil today visited the police headquarters at Crawford Market after the Home Depertment requested for more grants to run the constabulary.

Speaking to Newsline, Patil said additional resources could be granted for the procurement of sophisticated arms, expansion of the force and for more facilities for the policemen attached to the various police stations in the city. “I am studying the demands before any grants can be made,” remarked Patil.
