Union Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Suryakanta Patil is hoping that an astrological twist to her name will influence her political future. She has added an extra “u” in her name. There is another change too—the brass nameplate outside her office at Parliament House has given way to a steel one. According to sources in the NCP, Patil has been been worried after sensing that party boss Sharad Pawar intended to replace her with his confidant Shriniwas Patil. The NCP chief is toying with the idea of parking her as Maharashtra unit president in place of Arun Gujarati. That may or may not happen, but Suuryakanta Patil is already in the august company of Jayalalithaa and B S Yedyurappa.
