COLOMBO, AUG 20: Someone please tell the Indian side that the Gujral doctrine does not extend to cricket. Sri Lanka beat India by seven wickets in the second one-dayer to clinch the series 2-0. Man-of-the-Match Sanath Jayasuriya once again performed his `I-am-a-rock' act, the Indian bowlers got creamed again and the Indian batsmen failed to cross 250. Same old story; the usual suspects. For the record, The third and final match will be played on Saturday at the SSC Grounds here.If there was hope after the last match that Sachin Tendulkar's men could still pull off a win, it vanished the moment India was put in and Tendulkar departed in the first over. The final target, 238, was akin to chicken feed for these Lankans. You can't blame them if they proceeded to treat it as such.Opening the bowling with Rajesh Chauhan proved as futile as it did in the last match with Jayasuriya and Marvan Atapattu milking 63 runs from the first ten overs. Though Atapattu was dismissed leg before to Abey Kuruvilla for 38 (in 43 balls) in the 12th over, Jayasuriya carried on, thumping his way to 66 in 56 balls.Roshan Mahanama was next to go, run out for 66, but by then the champagne bottles were already out in the Lankan dressing room. The winning stroke came from Aravinda de Silva, who smashed Robin Singh to the boundary, taking Sri Lanka past the target and also acheived his individual half century in the process (52 no in 49 balls).Earlier, Saurav Ganguly got his first one-day century with a brave innings of 113 which, along with Robin Singh's 49, held promise of a total that Lanka would have considered worth chasing. Their partnership of 99 for the second wicket saved India from going under after Tendulkar was leg before to Chaminda Vaas in the first over.India's batting was frustrated yet again by tight bowling and brilliant fielding. Wicket keeper Lanka de Silva provided the extra edge to the fielding, and in the end had an impressive record of two stumpings and a catch.Ganguly went in the 44th over, caught by Kumara Dharmasena off a Muttiah Muralitharan delivery, his knock coming off 126 balls. Despite two stands of 53 runs each, first with Rahul Dravid and then with Ajay Jadeja, the Indians had been effectively contained .After coming close to losing the first match, skipper Arjuna Ranatunga replaced all rounder Hashan Tillekeratne with spinner Upul Chandana, an indication of how confident they are of their batting line-up.
