The Opposition Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh rubbished the allegations of sexual exploitation of women police recruits during its regime in the state and accused the Mayawati Government of using its senior police officials to target political opponents.

“The allegations that women constables were exploited are baseless and the BSP Government led by Mayawati is using senior police officials to target political opponents,” Samajwadi Party National Secretary Ramgopal Yadav said at a press conference in the capital on Thursday. He added that these allegations, made by the committee looking into the police recruitment scandal in Uttar Pradesh, are a part of vindictive politics being played by the Mayawati regime.

Yadav said that these allegations have ruined the reputation of the women recruits. “The state Government should immediately order a probe into the incident and also apologise to the women as well as the entire country,” said Ram Gopal Yadav.

Yadav also said that the senior police officers who made these allegations are “schizophrenic” and claimed that they had been of erratic behaviour in the past. “The fact that the officer was a schizophrenic can be established from his colleagues and junior officers,” Yadav said.
