NEW DELHI, AUG 9: The Samajwadi Party today claimed that it had won the chairmanship of 26 zila parishads in Uttar Pradesh, while in three other districts, candidates supported by it had won.
Rattled by conflicting reports of zila parishad elections, Samajwadi Party general secretary Amar Singh today sought to put the record straight. “We are far ahead of the other parties,” he asserted.
Reeling out the list of victorious candidates, Singh observed that results of three other zila parishads had been witheld because of a tie. “Even though we may not match our previous tally of 35, it should be realised that we have accomplished our feat under very adverse circumstances,” he said.
