Sehar, Music Today

THIS one could easily get lost in the blockbuster craze. Debutant Daniel B George8217;s work is of the more mature, instantly likeable variety, without even trying to be catchy or commercial.

No digitised vocals or electronica blast, just simple romantic lines. Ditto for lyrics.

The flute interludes in the opening track Sapno Ka Sehar Ho remind you of AR Rahman from the days of Roja, but the percussion section could be out of Yuva or Tehzeeb. But don8217;t dismiss George as a wannabe. The slow tempo melody is clearly an original.

Palken Jhukao Na, a dreamy duet by Adnan Sami and Alka Yagnik, has some really cunning arrangements. Young saxophonist Raghav Sachar, who made an average debut three years ago with an instrumental album, shows promise here. There8217;s another version sung by Swanand Kirkire and Meenal Jain, which is equally inspiring.

Nakhredaar Banno, a folksy wedding song by Shubha Mudgal, is also very visual and Mudgal doesn8217;t disappoint. She8217;s one of the few who doesn8217;t need accompaniments to make the chudis go khanak. Her voice does it all.

Bring on the wah wahs.
