At the UPA Government8217;s third anniversary and performance report dinner, Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, who sat at the high table with the Prime Minister, noticed that all the prominent allies were suitably placed around them 8212; Lalu Prasad Yadav, Sharad Pawar et al 8212; but not the DMK. So she quietly asked someone to look for T R Baalu who could occupy the one vacant seat at the table. But barely had she finished her sentence when she realised the seats had been assigned names, and on closer look, the label read: Prakash Karat. Orders for Baalu were immediately withdrawn as the CPIM General Secretary was seen making his way to the high table. Incidentally, the Left was present for the first time, though the leaders tactfully appeared only in time for dinner.
