The Gujarat Government on Friday sought the cancellation of Deputy Superintendent of Police Narendra Amin’s anticipatory bail. Amin is an accused in the killing of Kausar Bi, wife of fake encounter victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh.
Terming the order passed by the trial court granting Amin anticipatory bail as “perverse,” senior advocate KTS Tulsi, appearing for the state of Gujarat, said Amin’s interrogation was “extremely vital”.
The state, which faced flak earlier for failing to oppose grant of anticipatory bail to Amin, on Friday said the order was “unrivalled and would lead to complete derailment of the investigation and the trial would become a mere eyewash”.
Amin, who was charged with being part of the group that eliminated Sohrabuddin, his wife and a third accomplice, was last month granted anticipatory bail by a sessions court.
However, Amin’s counsel Nageswar Rao opposed the arguments and said the state CID led by IG Geeta Johri was coercing Amin to depose against his other arrested colleagues or face being implicated in the killings.
While reading out portions of transcripts supposedly containing the conversations of Amin with investigating officials, wherein he claimed he was coerced to depose against the other police officers already arrested in connection with the case, the counsel said Amin was merely booked under Section 201 under IPC, and not for murder.
