Speed up investigations
Another seminar discussing security issues was organised by the Rotary Clubs of Pune Riverside, Shaniwarwada, Shivajinagar and Uptown at Abasaheb Garware college on November 1. Senior police officials discussed on how to speed up police investigations and court trials. Ranjana P Desai, Bombay High Court judge, was the chief guest. The issues discussed were decriminalisation, speedy police investigations, trials in courts and punishments meted out.

PCA activities
The Punjabi Cultural Association held a free medical check up camp and clubbed it with a marriage milap mela at the PCA Hall in Salisbury Park recently. More than 200 boys and girls of marriageable age participated. The medical check up was conducted by Dr Swati Kanitkar and Dr Abhay Bhagwat and medicines were also distributed. The function was attended by Anand Kochhar, chairman of the Association and other members.

MUNA handbook released
The Rotary Club of Pune Riverside has for the first time published a book 8211; the MUNA Handbook 8211; written by Rohit Jerajani, club president and chairman MUNA of Rotary International Dist 3130. MUNA Model United Nation8217;s Assembly simulates the working of the UN Assembly, conducting debates on matters of world political and social issues. It is held over a weekend from Friday evening to Sunday afternoon helping develop in students an awareness of the United Nations and international events to help the students improve their debating and public speaking skills. The handbook has been designed for school students enabling them to get a global perspective and showing them a way to make friends and learn about new cultures.

Challenge of terrorism
The Centre for Advanced Strategic Studies CASS held a seminar on The Challenge of Terrorism8217; at the Seminar Hall of Nowrosjee Wadia College recently. Attended by eminent speakers, the opening address was delivered by former home secretary, Madhav Godbole. According to him the problem was not merely a law and order problem but also a socio-economic and religious problem. Lt Gen G B Shekatkar, commandant of Infantry School, Mhow, pointed out that the present day terrorist was well-equipped and technologically savvy. Narsimha Rao, former professor of Osmania University, spoke on the theoretical and political aspects of terrorism. A general discussion followed and closing remarks were delivered by Madhav Godbole.

Motivated by memories
Memories do strange things. The late Dr B V Rao of Venkateshwara Hatcheries used to donate funds for books to the poor students of Kawdewadi, Koregaon Park. So to commemorate his birth anniversary on November 6, the Yogaksham Prathisthan and the Shiv Sena organised a blood donation camp. Air Chief Marshall Harish Moolgaonkar, Balaji of Venkateshwara Hatcheries and Deepak Paigude were present for the inauguration of the camp. The drive generated 65 bottles of blood which was donated to the Inlaks and Budhrani Hospital. Says Rajendra Wagaskar of the Shiv Sena, 8220;It was his memories that made us take this step. How else can we repay the generosity of this great man?8221; With a good deed of course.
