LONDON, April 26: Mary Slaney, who conquered the world over both 1,500 and 3,000 metres at the 1983 World Championships, lost her protracted doping battle with the world governing body today.
In a statement from its Monaco headquarters, the International Amateur Athletic Federation IAAF said its arbitration panel had concluded Slaney had committed a doping offence three years ago. Slaney, 40, tested positive for excessive levels of the male sex hormone testosterone at the 1996 US Olympic trials.
She has consistently denied taking any banned substances and a fortnight ago filed a lawsuit against both the IAAF and the US Olympic Committee USOC.
