NAGPUR, NOVEMBER 23: Though the Indian selectors do not deem it fit to honour the captain8217;s opinion or even consult him before picking the side, the newly-appointed coach John Wright seems to have understood the importance of skipper Saurav Ganguly, who came out openly against the selectors yesterday. Ganguly had said after India8217;s win over Zimbabwe in Delhi that neither he nor the coach knew about the team selected for the second Test beginning here on Saturday.
The one-match-old Indian coach also put to rest speculations regarding his difference of opinion with the skipper over proper balance of the team8217;. He was modest in admitting to the mediapersons that the captain was more important than him. quot;I8217;m in the back seat. He8217;s Saurav more important than anyone in the team.quot;
Wright arrived here this morning along with the Indian squad sans Ganguly who is reportedly in Mumbai, paceman Javagal Srinath and Mohammad Kaif, who found favour with the selectors after Yuvraj Singh was released8217; from the side to play in Ranji Trophy.
Wright turned down the reporters8217; request to speak about the Test. However, he promised to brief the media only after the Indian skipper arrives here tomorrow.
During the optional practice session for the team members, Wright, accompanied by the vice-captain Rahul Dravid, had a closer look at the Vidharbha Cricket Association track. However, he refused to term it an inspection8217;. quot;I will inspect the pitch tomorrow and then talk about it,quot; he said.
Meanwhile, the BCCI8217;s pitch committee chairman K Kasturirangan hoped that the Indian skipper would be satisfied with the track. quot;It is just impossible to make a pitch that would fully satisfy a captain,quot; he said.
Kasturirangan opined that the track would be bouncy for the first three days. And thereafter it will start taking some turn.
