COLOMBO, Aug 1: A suggestion by Sunil Gavaskar to seek Bobby Simpson8217;s advice in finding a foreign physical trainer for the Indian cricket team has found favour with the Board of Control for Cricket in India BCCI.
Gavaskar told Mr Jagmohan Dalmiya during the recent International Cricket Council ICC meeting in London that Simpson was the right person to guide in this matter. Dalmiya, the then BCCI secretary, spoke to the former Australian captain and coach to suggest a name within the next few months. This was revealed by Mr Jayant Lele, the new BCCI secretary, who is here to witness the first Test between India and Sri Lanka.
He said that the BCCI would not take legal recourse against those making these charges, but they would stand by players if they chose to file defamation suits.
When quizzed if the BCCI intended to invite Aamir Sohail to India, as the Pakistani had gone public to say that he was willing to name the Indian players before Chandrachud if the Pakistan Cricket Board permitted him to do so, Lele replied that it8217;s up to the former Chief Justice to decide on whom to invite to depose before him.
Lele said that there is nothing wrong with the present format of having one selector from each zone. What was needed, he pointed out, was selectors who command respect.
