8226; I completely agree with T.V.R. Shenoy in 8216;How many Congresses?8217; IE, May 5 that to save the government at the Centre, the Congress has compromised the well being of West Bengal. Until and unless the Congress teams up with the Trinamool Congress here, no one can dislodge the CPM. Taking the Left8217;s support at the Centre looks good in the short term but in the long term it is not advisable to put the interests of states like Kerala and West Bengal on the line.

More like him
8226; LT. Gen. Aurora was one of our finest war heroes. Hearing and knowing about him has made me feel two or three inches taller. May his tribe increase.

Business of politics
8226; Sagarika Ghose8217;s8216;Social Justice Pvt Ltd8217; IE, May 4 is an excellent article! It provides a true picture of the political scenario of the last several decades. Look around in India and almost in every state you find that politics is only a very lucrative business. Leave aside the invisible exchange of money, simply calculate the losses incurred openly by way of overruns and terrible cost increases in various projects.

Read the Bill
8226; Jay Mazoomdaar doesn8217;t seem to have read the summary of the Forest Rights Bill that you have published in your paper 8216;Who8217;s bothered about tribal welfare?8217;, IE, May 5. Your summary states that if a 8220;tribal family holds less than 2.5 hectares now, its holding won8217;t be enhanced.8221; So where is the question of population or future claims destroying forests? As for creating 8220;free fodder8221;, does Mazoomdaar realise that penalties exist for forest destruction in the Bill? The only difference is that both communities and forest officials will be involved in such forest conservation, instead of it being left to the corrupt, forest-destroying bureaucracy that calls itself the Forest Department.

We pay for it
8226; Someone should remind the 8220;leaders8221; of our country that each day of Parliament costs the country a little over Rs 1.2 crore! This boycott of Parliament over the same issues, be it Laloo 8216;fodder8217; Yadav or George 8216;tehelka8217; Fernandes, year after year is an abuse of the democratic process.

Have it out
8226; This refers to the report 8216;Centaur: FM takes a swipe at Shourie8217; IE, May 5. The UPA government is only interested in setting up committees against the NDA, not placing their findings before the public. Why doesn8217;t Chidambaram enter into a public debate with Arun Shourie?

So insensitive
8226; It was not just shameful but outright disgusting to read about the court asking the rape victim to reply to the convict8217;s proposal for marriage. This shows the court8217;s utter insensitivity towards the victim.
