Pillay hopes forward line will click
The Indian hockey team, which arrived in Delhi from Patiala, was a subdued lot after learning about the visa problems in the afternoon on Thursday. While there were some concerned faces, most players reitirated that the delay would not affect their morale in any way. Captain Dhanraj Pillay, said “the players are doing well, especially the defence. Dilip Tirkey and Lazarus Barla have been great in the build-up to the Cup. And with Riaz and Saini in the midfield, we have few worries. I just hope that our forward line clicks — in every match.”

Sampras upset
Michael Chang sent world number one Pete Sampras tumbling out of the Italian Open in the third round while Marcelo Rios gave another awesome display of his abilities to dispatch Thomas Muster in less than an hour. Chang triumphed 6-2 7-6 clinching the match 8-6 in a thrilling tie-break.

Atwal shines
Arjun Atwal shot a three under 69 to be joint fifth at the $200,000 Gaum Open after the second round, according to information received here. Atwal had the best scores among the six Indians who made the cut which was applied at three over 147.

Good performance
Indian golfers came up with good performances to overtake overnight leaders and hosts Thailand for the lead in the Janya Cup team championships at the 20th Asia Pacific Junior Open Golf championships at Springfield Royal Country Club in Bangkok.
