Doull adjudged best

  • Simon Doull of New Zealand has been chosen as the first BPL Player of the Week for the period December 25 to 31.
  • The judges 8211; Sunil Gavaskar, Viv Richards and Tony Greig 8211; considered the performances of the players in the matches played during this period which were West Indies vs South Africa, India vs New Zealand and England vs Australia.

    After shortlisting Alec Stewart, Simon Doull, Dean Headley, Steve Waugh and Sachin Tendulkar, the judges finally selected Simon Doull as the winner for his match-haul of nine wickets against India. Doull will be presented 500 for becoming the BPL Player of the Week.

    This is a weekly award and will be given to the cricketer who performs the best in international cricket in a week. The BPL Week is from Friday to Thursday.

    Air-rifle shooting camp

  • The Indian Education Society IES Air Rifle Shooting Club will be conducting a training camp from January 5 to 10 between 5.00 p.m. to 7.00 p.m.
  • The venue will be the Airrifle shooting range, A-I basement, Raja Shivaji Vidyasankul, Hindu Colony, Dadar East, Mumbai 400 014. The camp is being held in collaboration with the Maitree Sanghatana and National and International-level champions will be available as trainers.

    Manora badminton tourney

  • The members of the Manora Badminton Academy are hereby informed that the eighth tournament of the Academy restricted to the members of the Academy will be held at the NSCI badminton courts on January 16 and 17.
  • Entries, which close on January 10, will be accepted by Manohar Godse/Ravi Sarmalkar at Matunga Gymkhana between 5.00 and 8.00 p.m.; Deokar and George John at Chembur Gymkhana between 6.00 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sathe/Ravi at NSCI badminton courts.   • The Purshottam Shield cricket tournament final between MIG and Shivaji Park Gymkhana, scheduled to be played at the P J Hindu Gymkhana from January 1 to 3, has been postponed on a request letter from Prof. R S Shetty, Hon. Secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association.
  • Indian Gym bridge today

  • The Indian Gymkhana Open bridge tournament, sponsored by Suppressa Graphics, will be held on January 2 and 3 at the Gymkhana premises. The tournament offers a prize of Rs 15,000 and commences at 2.30 p.m. tomorrow Saturday.
