MUMBAI, MARCH 10: Tata Sports Club put it across Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers 3-1 in an ugly incident-marred match of the Bombay Hockey Association Super League at the Mahindra Stadium on Friday.

The despicable incident took place in the 24th minute when RCF were a goal up. Amjad Khan of Tatas sparked off the row when he swung his stick wildly at defender Vinod Kumar of RCf. The two then fought hand to hand before players from both the sides joined in the wrestling style free-for-all.

Umpire Sukhbir Singh rightly showed the two players the red card to bring the situation under control.

But things went out of hand again when Amjad and Vinod began fighting each other again near the technical table and ignited another fight. However, wiser counsel prevailed and things were brought under control after a four-minute break. Seven cards, including five green, were shown in the heated clash.

Tatas had the better share of the exchanges as well as scoring chances than RCF. But the latter fought doggedly to keep their 10th-minute lead, obtained by Solomon Alexander, intact before umpire Douglas Rodrigues threw a spanner in their works by awarding a stroke, which was not there in the 43rd minute.

Claes Ferreira of Tatas converted the gift’ award with a weak push that trickled into goal after grazing the stick of RCF goalkeeper Nandu Rajagoplan who had dived to the right.

Tatas then struck twice in the last five minutes through Claes and Asad Khan to put the issue beyond doubt. This was Tatas’ fourth victory from five games. They are unbeaten and have tallied 13 points. RCF have won one, lost one and have drawn one of their three games.
