Shilpa’s dad asks for anticipatory bail

Surendra Dejoo Shetty, father of actress Shilpa Shetty, has moved an anticipatory bail application with the District and Sessions Judge K.M. Vin here on Monday. The hearing has been scheduled for May 28.

Counsel from the Gujarat High Court, Prabhakar Upadhyay, appeared before the judge on behalf of Shetty, who has been facing an arrest warrant in connection with extortion threats received by the owner of Prafful Sarees.

Talking to reporters at the court, Upadhyay said: ‘‘We have filed an anticipatory petition on behalf of our client. The case will come up for hearing on May 28.’’

Asked whether Shetty will be present in court, Upadhyay said, ‘‘Shetty does not have to come here for the hearing. Senior lawyer at Gujarat High Court V.B. Rajoo will be present on his behalf.’’

Upadhyay refused to reveal the grounds on which the bail is being moved. He said: ‘‘I am unable to reveal much about the case. I have been sent here by my senior lawyer Rajoo only to move the application. The rest will be handled by him on May 28.’’
