Shatkar Trophy under-16 cricket from Oct 26

The tournament would form the basis for selecting the Mumbai u-16 team.

The MCA released the list of four teams on Friday after a two-day selection trial held at the Wankhede Stadium.

The sixth team — Deodhar XI — comprising boys of Thane district would be selected on October 20 at Central Maidan, Thane

The teams: Vengsarkar XI: Rubesh Kumar (captain), Mahesh Palekar, Sandesh Amrute, Sohan Dalvi, Vishal Tivrekar, Swapnil Tambe, Sushant Marathe (wicket-keeper), Samir Shaikh, Kumar Subramaniam, Chirag Lambad, Varun Mundkur, Pushkaraj Karde, Nikhil Kulkarni, Mudassar Sayyed and Atul Sharma.

Gavaskar XI: Omkar Khanvilkar (C), Sammy Salaria, Shirish Mendrekar, Rohit Bhalla, Hiken Shah, SachinShetty, Neil Daftary, Swapnil Shinde (both WK), Parag Madkaikar, Nikhil Dhanavade, Aditya Kulkarni, Aniket Naik Satam, Anand Dalvi, Leroy Rebello and Prasad Chavan.

Opening round schedule (Oct 26-27): Gavaskar XI vs Borde XI at PJ Hindu Gymkhana; Vengsarkar XI vs Deodhar XI at Karnatak CC; Solkar XI vs Viswanath XI at Islam Gymkhana.

Aarey upset Kamath

Aarey Cricket Club provided a rousing start to the Bharat Petroleum U-14 cricket tournament by knocking outdefending champions Kamath Memorial at Worli Sports Club here today.

Electing to bat, Kamath Memorial never got going, and were bundled out for 89 in the penultimate over.

Anchored by Rohan Saldanha’s unbeaten 37 Aarey reached the target in the 23rd over with four wickets to spare.

Left-arm seamer Rahul Kulkarni, who bowled a tight line, conceding just six runs in his five overs, struck 12 runs with the bat to claim the Man of the Match award.

In the second match, hosts Worli Sports Club scored an impressive 9-wicket victory over Rajasthan CC.
