PUNE, Nov 29: P M Sethna (-14) logged 39 stablefold points to win the coveted Sandvik Asia Golf Trophy at the Poona Club golf course here recently.

The competition, played on a stablefold format, had a total of 135 golfers, with a maximum handicap of (-18) taking part in two divisions silver and bronze divisions.

For Sethna it was patience and regular practice that paid off. Playing the outward-9 with 21 points to his credit and 18 on the inward-9, Sethna edged Y S Marwa (-17) to the runner-up spot by a lone point.

Marwa, who had to his credit 38 points by virtue of (19 pts on the front-9; and 19 on the back-9), was closely followed by Dr. Rajeshwari Agarwal (-16) who ended up with 36 points.

Notable absentees from the top spots were Kanitkar Aditya (-15) and Vinesh Punjabi (-17) who ended up with 35 pints apiece.

In the bronze division, A E Weeks (-34), who made his debut in the tourney, finished with a blase, clinching the winners prize with 39 (20+19) points. Weeks was also honoured with the Eves special prize specially given by Sandvik Asia.

Competition for the runners-up position was tough among K Sarma, V S Kulkarni and Anil Chabbria, all of whom scored 38 points respectively. However, K Sarma got the better of V S Kulkarni and A Chabbria owing to better scores on the back nine. K Sarma (-29) scored only 18 points on front-9 and 22 on backward journey while Chabbria had 18 on the onward journey and 20 on the way back.
