D. N. Moorty, senior editor of The Indian Express in Mumbai, passed away this morning after a brief illness. He was 53. Moorty is survived by his mother and three sisters.
Durvasa Narayana Moorty worked at the Express for the last 10 years — first at the news desk and later as its head before moving to become a correspondent covering science, technology and defence. For some time, Moorty also headed the newspaper’s editorial operations in Jammu. Moorty had also worked for a Kuwaiti newspaper.
Moorty wrote extensively on technology and defence and science establishments and has to his credit a string of in-depth reports. His works were also published in Jane’s Defence Weekly.
Even when he was at the newspaper’s desk, the reporter in Moorty was at work. He sneaked into Sri Lanka without a passport at the height of the Tamil Tigers’ movement and interviewed LTTE guerillas in their training grounds.
