The Shiv Sena is now seeking that all civic contractors be mandated to repatriate migrant workers who work as casual labourers back to their native places once their job is over.

In a letter to the Mumbai Municipal Commissioner, senior Sena leader and chairman of the BMC8217;s Standing Committee Ravindra Waikar has demanded that the civic administration enforce such a rule for all its contractors. The move is certain to give the city8217;s 15-lakh-strong unorganised migrant worker community sleepless nights.

8220;Contractors bring in labourers for various projects from other states because it is an inexpensive proposition for them. These labourers then settle here, resulting in the burgeoning of Mumbai8217;s population,8221; said Waikar.
