CHENNAI, JULY 2: Defending champion Chetan Anand (AI) led the seeded players’ progress into the second round in the junior boys event in the Ninth Krishna Khaitan Memorial All India Grand Prix junior badminton tournament, which began today.

Top seeded Anand beat Leo Nirlum (Bhutan) 15-1, 15-1 while third seeded Arup Baidya (Rlys) outplayed B Vikas Reddy (AP) 15-2, 15-1 in another first round match. Second seeded A Prithvi was stretched by qualifier Pankaj Naik (Goa) before he overcame his rival 15-10, 17-14.

Tamil Nadu No 1 J Santosh came back after dropping the first game to defeat Anand Ganguly 14-17, 17-14, 15-1 in only the second match which went into three games on a day when over 100 matches were conducted.
