Security overdrive ahead of IMA Passing Out Parade

Keeping in mind the forthcoming POP of the IMA and the recent terror attacks in Mumbai, the police department has initiated a mega security drive for verifying the antecedents of the visitors to Dehradun.

Keeping in mind the forthcoming Passing Out Parade (POP) of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) and the recent terror attacks in Mumbai, the police department has initiated a mega security drive for verifying the antecedents of the visitors to Dehradun. The POP is scheduled for December 13.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Amit Sinha told The Indian Express,” We have set a target to verify the antecedents of entire floating population of Dehradun.”

He explained that emphasis is being laid on updating of information by the beat officials. “We already have a database of antecedents of more than 12,000 people who constitute the floating population. We intend to take this number up to 20,000 in the next few days,” he said.

Particular stress is being laid on checking the visitors to the city who are staying in various hotels and guesthouses.

At a recent meeting between the hoteliers and the top police officials it came to light that the hotel owners were not aware of the beat officers deployed in their areas.
